The Friends of the Bethany Library Association is a non-profit volunteer organization that contributes to Clark Memorial Library’s ongoing educational, cultural, and entertainment programs, as well as other special events hosted or sponsored by the Library. The Friends’ mission is to “support quality library service in the community through fundraising, volunteering, and serving as advocates for the library.”

ANYONE CAN BE A FRIEND!

You can either pick up a physical copy of the membership application downstairs at the Library and mail it to the Friends, c/o Clark Memorial Library, 538 Amity Road, Bethany, CT 06524, or download a digital application and submit it as an email attachment to Friends@bethanylibrary.org.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Monetary contributions are much appreciated, but your time and talents are even more precious. We don’t expect you to commit to attending regular meetings, but if you can become involved in one of our annual events or ongoing activities, it would be greatly appreciated.

With the Children’s Room renovation in progress, many indoor events will be temporarily curtailed, but below is a list of ongoing events and planned future events, as well as tasks and/or skills that are necessary to get them set up. All of these activities are tons of fun, and they also showcase the Library as an important public space for the Bethany community.

Special Annual Events:

  • “Library Mini-Golf”
    • Details: Usually held in February.
    • Tasks: Recruit local businesses as sponsors, & solicit both businesses and individuals to participate in a Silent Auction.
  • “Design Your Perennial Garden”
    • Details: Held in early spring.
    • Tasks:
  • “A Taste of Bethany”
    • Details: An assortment of food-tasting events featuring local ethnic & cultural specialties, organic and farm-grown foods, a vegan cook-off, and a pie contest judged by professional bakers.
    • Tasks: Recruit and organize local restaurants, farms, chefs, and/or private individuals to cook, bake, and share their food culture with Bethany residents.  Volunteers can contribute to event planning, or be on hand to assist the day of.

Ongoing Activities:

  • Used Book Sales –
    • Details: The Library has an ongoing book sale set up in the foyer, and occasionally hosts various pop-up sales as well.
    • Tasks: Donate and sort books for the sales.
  • Seasonal Baking Events –
    • Details: The Library’s Annual Public Art Exhibit typically includes a bake sale, and the Friends contribute to the town’s Harvest Festival and other holiday celebrations.
    • Tasks: Create tasty homemade baked goods!
  • Museum & Park Passes –
    • Details: Passes allow free or discounted admission to museums and parks across Connecticut, available to anyone with a library card.
    • Tasks: Provide funding for the purchase of passes.
