Looking for something scary to watch this Halloween? The Kanopy Crypt Collection has arrived! Featuring a handpicked lineup of horror films and TV series – from iconic slashers and atmospheric ghost stories to prestige horror and cult classics, there’s something for every kind of scare.

It’s that time of year again! Halloween is on the horizon, and we’ve filled our displays with sinister and spooky stories to celebrate. Stop by and pick up a spine-chilling late-autumn read, and be sure to check out the Kanopy Crypt Collection on our streaming service for a selection of scary movies as well!

Are you planning an end-of-summer day trip? Don’t forget that the Library has eight Museum Passes that provide free or reduced admission to a variety of museums and attractions in Connecticut, including Beardsley Zoo, Wadsworth Atheneum, and Dinosaur State Park’s Exhibit Center! Museum Passes can be checked out just like books, but they can’t be renewed or put on hold. The Nutmeg Book Award allows students to choose their favorite books from lists of ten nominated titles at four reading levels (Elementary, Intermediate, Middle School, & High School) and vote for them in April. The Library will be adding copies of many of the 2027 nominees to its physical collection soon, but we already have a curated booklist on the Palace app that includes ebook and audiobook editions of both the 2027 nominees (with sublists divided by reading level) and the 2026 winners!

Whether you’re planning to vote or just looking for a good summer reading book, sign in to Palace and take a look. If you don’t find what you’re looking for there, you can check out our other digital media apps, Libby and Hoopla. All three can be used for free – all you need to create an account is a library card and an email address! More information is available on the Library website.

Sew It All on Creativebug

Watch ‘Sew It All’ on Creativebug!

The Library’s craft video-learning site Creativebug is collaborating with fellow craft service Sew Daily to make beloved PBS sewing series ‘Sew It All’ with Ellen March available to our patrons! Use your library card number to make an account or sign in at creativebug.com/lib/clarkmemorial to access this and thousands of other sewing, art, craft, and needle art classes.

Season 1 of ‘Sew It All’, which is all about creative reuse, playful experimentation, and clever sewing solutions, is available now; additional seasons will be launching throughout 2026. You’ll learn how to sew garments and home projects from start to finish, repurpose old clothes into something entirely new, apply elements of design to create one-of-a-kind pieces, and master beginner techniques and useful sewing tips.

This month, celebrate the magic of imagination on the Library’s film app, Kanopy! Explore extraordinary stories that blend the impossible with the unforgettable, where heroes rise, destinies unfold, and dreams come vividly to life with a curated collection of Fantasy Films in February; these captivating films will transport you to worlds filled with wonder, adventure, and myth.

Did You Know?

You can pick up and/or print your 2025 tax forms at the Library! Physical copies of Federal Form 1040, Federal Form 1040-SR, and State Form CT-1040 – as well as instructions on how to locate, download, and print other IRS publications – are now available on the right-hand side of the table underneath the Library’s bulletin board upstairs. The Library’s public computers can be used to access forms that are only available digitally; we do not charge patrons printing fees for tax forms.

You’ll have unlimited access to countless projects you’ll love – it’s a great way to learn new skills and find fun ways to apply the ones you already enjoy!

New on our Read-Alike Shelf (by the public computers upstairs) are LSC Featured Reads – books that have been featured in the Library’s LSC Virtual Author Talks! Bookmarks indicate whether each book features in an upcoming or an archived Talk, along with a QR Code and link to the relevant collection.

If you enjoy a book you find on the display, take the opportunity to learn more about both the book and its author by watching their LSC Author Talk! Featured books for younger readers will also be on display in areas appropriate to their reading level, so keep an eye out for Featured Reads bookmarks when you visit.
